The network of European Art nouveau cities

Nancy's Art nouveau is part of a movement that developed throughout Europe at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

Bringing together cities with Art nouveau in common

In 1999, a European network of cities with a rich Art nouveau heritage was formed, the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN). Nancy is one of the founding members and cooperates to its activities ever since. Supported by the European Community for phases I to III (2001-2015), the network  is an association since 2007 and welcomes private as well as corporate members.

A network to protect and promote heritage

The network has grown from 14 to 20 cities and pursues its objectives of safeguarding and promoting Art Nouveau heritage. Its many actions aimed at both the general and specific public (children, researchers, etc.),  include the organization of symposiums and travelling exhibitions, the creation of a website with a wealth of resources, and the  publication of books. The network coordinates each World  Art Nouveau Year, on June 10th. Its actions aim not only to promote a known, studied and listed heritage but also to alert when it is threatened. The network also encourages the exchange of information and the development of collaboration between partner cities.

Cultural Routes

The Network is certified as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe since 2014.

The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe are an invitation to travel and discover Europe's rich and diverse heritage, bringing people together in places of history and heritage. They embody the values of the Council of Europe: human rights, cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and mutual exchange.
